The Oliveri's 70th Year of moving people

The team of Southern Cross Transit would like to congratulate our fearless leaders, the Oliveri family, on reaching an incredible milestone. 70 years in the bus industry! You don't get there without a lot of hard work and determination!

A very brief History into the family's achievements:

The Oliveri family's heritage originates from Melicucca’, a small village in southern Italy. Giuseppe and Carmela Oliveri migrated to Australia in 1949 after Giuseppe was released from WWII captivity. They settled in Edensor Park, NSW, where Giuseppe's sons, Giovanni, Francesco, Rocco, and Domenica, worked a small farm. In 1954, they acquired a struggling bus route, Route 41, marking the family's first venture into the transport business. This led to the growth of Oliveri Transport Services Pty Ltd.

In 1961, the family expanded into the Campbelltown area by acquiring Route 102. In 1965, they also began operating Relaxaway Tours & Travel. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the family's bus business flourished under Giovanni, Francesco, and Rocco, who expanded services and purchased land. In 1978, Giovanni's son, Frank, became General Manager of the operations, and the business continued to grow.

After Giovanni's death in 1978 and Giuseppe's in 1983, the family adapted, with younger members like Frank, his brother Joe, and others taking over leadership roles. In the 1990s, the family restructured, splitting the bus operations into two entities: MetroLink, serving Liverpool, and Interline, serving Ingleburn. Interline became integral to Sydney's transport system, including a role in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

In 2002, the Oliveris expanded into Queensland by acquiring Southern Cross Transit. Over the next two decades, they expanded their bus services in Queensland and New South Wales, establishing a reputation for innovation. However, in 2023, after 69 years of operation, Transit Systems took over the Oliveri family's bus operations in NSW.

Southern Cross Transit, founded in 1980 by Wally Horwood, was purchased by Caterina Oliveri in 2002. It operates contracted school services and chartered buses in Queensland, with a fleet of 50 buses today.
